Berry Amazing

So today I was very fortunate in seeing one of my favourite ever bakers and idols, Mary Berry (do you get the post title now, instead of very I put Berry haha...).

Anyway, she was opening a new £4.5 million Barker and Stonehouse flagship store near where I live and I had to go and see the Great British Bake Off judge. Apparently there was over 400 people who attended the opening which is insane but Mary is that popular!

Lights, camera, action!

So this will be a quick and short post!

A month ago, I decided to create another blog, carolineosbelphotography, specifically to do with photography. It is basically for me to get my photos out there to people since I would to become a journalist and/or a photographer when I leave university next year.

The posts will vary. Some will just be my photos I have taken, others will be helpful tips and advice for those who are interested in the subject.

But don't worry, I WILL be continuing to post on this blog as well!

So keep your eyes focused on up and coming posts on that blog as well as this one.
Until next time

Review| My Fair Lady. By George, it's got it

This romantic comedy breaks all boundaries when it comes to the predictable notions of the genre. No kissing, no nudity, no sex and no pronouncements of love. My Fair Lady is a fresh, light hearted rom-com musical.

Starring: Audrey Hepburn, Rex Harrison, Stanley Holloway, Jeremy Brett and Gladys Cooper
Running time: 2 hours 50 minutes
Release Year: 1964
Rating out of 5: 5

Set in 1912, it focuses on the arrogant phonetics professor Henry Higgins (Harrison) who decides to improve a flower girl (Hepburn) Cockney accent. From lower class to upper class, Hepburn’s character determination and will proved to be the drive behind the film.

Although Hepburn did not sing most of her characters songs, the gifted Marni Nixon did, she was perfect for the role of Eliza Doolittle. Miss ‘take no prisoners’ Doolittle showed girl power when dealing with Higgins.

Harrison’s character provided a love/hate relationship with both Doolittle and us, the audience. The over confident professor and his feelings towards Doolittle develops as he realises he has "grown accustomed to her face", providing a new approach to this normally so predictable love genre.

Jeremy Brett, known for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, and Gladys Cooper proved to be flawless choices as supporting roles. Brett plays Doolittle’s love interest Freddy Eynsford-Hill, an upper class man, and Cooper who plays Harrison’s mother, Mrs Higgins.

The only criticism is that it is two hours and 50 minutes long, but the characters developments and the catchy songs makes this film a feel good and classic film, perfect for all musical lovers.

Winning eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, people definitely will be dancing all night once they have seen one of the all-time best movie musicals.

A View from the Bridge review

In celebration of writer Arthur Miller’s century birthdate, Touring Consortium Theatre Company is putting on a performance that will definitely rock the boat.

Set in 1950s New York, A View From the Bridge is based in a mysterious Italian American neighbourhood, near the Brooklyn Bridge, where the life of  well respected longshoreman Eddie Carbone’s, played by London’s Burning actor Jonathan Guy Lewis, is turned upside down when two Italian cousins move in with him, his wife Beatrice and their orphaned niece, Catherine. At first it was smooth sailing but things take a drastic turn.

Love your life, love your body!

In todays society, body image seems to be the main thing now. The media portrays women to be thin, model like who has the perfect beach body, perfect hair, perfect skin and the perfect life.

Me, like many, were drawn in to think that this is what I had to do to become happy with myself and to be accepted in society.

Just because you can’t see doesn’t mean it isn’t there…

This post will be focusing on something that I have experienced and what other people may have experienced too. Bullying but focusing on what it does to your mind.

NOTE: I am not an expert, I am basing this on my own experiences. If you are suffering from bullying talk to someone or please go and see a doctor if you think you are suffering from depression due to it! It does help!

Review| I am 'Fall'-ing in love...

This review will be on my second favourite ever TV series The Fall.

Starring: Jamie Dornan, Gillian Anderson, Colin Morgan, John Lynch, Bronagh Waugh, Aisling Franciosi
Channel: RTE One (Republic of Ireland), BBC Two (UK)
Number of Series: 2
Running time: 60mins per episode
Released Year: 2013 (Series 1), 2014 (Series 2)
Genre: Crime, drama
Rating out of 5: 5

-some swearing and some scene that may upset viewers-

Now, this TV show is one to definitely one to watch and I will tell you why. It is set in Belfast, Northern Ireland and is a crime drama. And an intense one too!

So a little bit about what it is (without giving too much away so I am going to blunt).
Like I said, it is set in Belfast and follows DSI Stella Gibson, a senior investigating officer who is tasked with reviewing an investigation. Things take a sinister turn when it becomes apparent a serial killer is on the loose. Gibson, along with other officers, must work and track down Paul Spector who has been attacking young professional women in the city. But will Spector get caught?

Now one of the reasons why I adore this show is because it is set in Ireland and my favourite accent is Irish. However, the main reason is because it is just so dark, thrilling and intense. The way Paul (played by Dornan) thinks and plans his victims and their murder is precise and fascinating to watch as a viewer. The way you know he is the killer for the start is great and refreshing to watch, much different from the 'Who Dunnit' type of series we most commonly see on the box.

Paul, the serial killer, is played by 50 Shades of Grey actor Jamie Dornan and well, he is just so perfect in this role. He brings a sense of confidence and sinister aspect yet another completely different side to the character, a family man in the scenes with his wife and two young children. He entices you in with his movements, they way he speaks and those piercing brown eyes.

Stella on the other hand is a marmite kind of character. You either love her or hate her. Played by The X Files Gillian Anderson, she is dominate, fierce, takes no prisoners woman, whose determination to catch Paul is clear in all episodes. Her feminist ways and strong willed attitude is empowering and refreshing to see on the small screen.
However, both character are like strawberries and cream, ying and yang, Batman and Robin, they work perfectly together, even if they are on opposite ends of the spectrum.

However fans of another well known BBC hit drama series can also enjoy this intoxicating show. For any Merlin fans out there then a recognisable warlock can be seen in the second series (he isn't in the first). Irish actor Colin Morgan, who played the title role, plays DS Tom Anderson who is drafted in by Stella to help solve the case mid way through the series. Now I for one am a huge HUGE fan of Colin, I have admired (loved, obsessed) over him since Merlin and it was perfect that he would be in this. The emotional thing is that he is reunited with his father Balinor (in Merlin) as John Lynch plays Jim Burns in this, Stella's boss.

There are 11 episodes all together, five in series one and six in series two. The way both of them end is so riveting, leaving you wanting more and wanting to find out what happens next.
Both series focuses on the murders, the hunt and whether or not Stella captures Paul and brings him to justice.
Don't get me wrong, it does have its falls, one of them being that Stella can be very annoying sometimes but that is because she is so determined. However, it is cleverly paced, with plot twists coming in thick and fast but not in a way that leaves you confused unlike some series like this.

For those who adore watching crime dramas such as ITVs Broachchurch, BBCs Luther and The Missing, then this is definitely one to watch!

Trailer for series 1 (promotion):

You can buy both series in store and online now!

There are plans for a third series but nothing has been confirmed as of yet!

If you have watched the series then tell me what you think!
Until next time x
